18/20 points Tamlyn Currin (JancisRobinson.com): "(Tasted from a mini sample bottle. Malmsey grown on vineyards in São Jorge, on the north coast of the island. Aged 10 years in very old oak casks. TA 7 g/l, VA 0.6 g/l, RS 112 g/l, pH 3.41. 2,933 bottles released in 2023.) There's a coffee note on the nose of this wine that in that split-second moment that it touches your lips turns to chocolate. Then it slides in, spreads slowly like ripples from a stone skimmed across a dark lake, turns to chocolate-covered apricots, sticky-toffee pudding, melted liquorice, grilled citrus peel and this wonderful, persistent, haunting mineral-perfume of stone dust. And it's this stone dust that fills the finish, turning the wine dry and as rocky fresh as the breath-taking pause as you breast the peak of a mountain just as sunrise splits the sky below. Wind cold and herb-lifted in your nose. (6/27/23)"
This Madeira wine has been crafted from the volcanic, sub-tropical Portuguese island of Madeira.
